Firing On All Cylinders

Kate Peck, the former model-turned-motor sport TV presenter, is a petrolhead at heart. Peck is now the face of Melbourne moto clothing label Saint CC. Pitched to the modern grease monkey, it’s where biker cool and denim punks come together for the ultimate fashion makeover to make a ride all the more, well, fashionable.

And Peck is the perfect fit for the gig – she’s got biker chic down pat and is the ideal pin-up for its female ambassador role. From MTV host to studying to become a sommelier, she’s proof you can have your cake and eat it, too.

The tall blonde, now 30, first came to our attention as a 15-year-old contestant on the TV show Search for a Supermodel, signed to Vivien’s modelling soon after and then landed racing ambassador roles with Myer in 2014 and 2015. She was a regular face in the Birdcage at Flemington over the years, and appeared again this month as a “friend” of Mumm champagne.

She’s obsessed with motorbikes, loves adventure sport and you can find her on race tracks or behind the wheel of rally cars as part of her day job. Away from the media spotlight, she’s busy getting around on her BMW R nineT Urban G/S.

“I’ve always been into riding motorcycles,” says Peck, who was born in Canada, raised in Cairns and moved to Melbourne at the age of four before relocating to Sydney for work. She’s even been on riding trips abroad with her dad and stepmother – from South Africa to Sri Lanka and Mexico.

“It was my dad who got me into motorsports and riding bikes,” she says.

“It’s a love I’ve had ever since I was a young girl. To land a gig as a motorsport presenter and be doing it three years on is my ultimate dream job.” But when it comes to riding gear, Peck says the choices haven’t always been great. More than just a partnership for the sake of exchange, she says joining Saint CC made sense because the brand appealed to her style.

It’s always been a battle for women, more so than men, when it comes to find cool protective clothing you can wear,” says Peck.

“Riding gear for women has always been superbly ugly, adorned with too many diamantes, and when Saint CC approached me it felt like a godsend.”

Saint worshippers include Hollywood’s Ewan McGregor and Eric Bana, who are regular customers of the denim and workwear range. There’s unbreakable denim with a protective safety feature – you get a four-second fabric protection when you slide off your bike – and they’re doing what few have in the denim space.

Peck says she hopes to attract more women to the sport via her TV role.

“There’s not a lot of mentors to look up to the motor sporting world,” she says. “Women are pushing boundaries in these industries and people are paying attention to our valued opinions – it’s about intelligence, strategy and creativity.

“There’s no reason women can’t be engineers, mechanics or a motorbike rider. It’s important young girls feel they can do anything.” Away from sport, she’s got a passion for wine.

“You’d really impress me with a bottle of Savaterre or a Giaconda Chardonnay,” she smiles.

“I do enjoy learning about wine. There’s a lot to get your head around, but like anything I am passionate about, I go in 100 per cent and work my way through until I’ve figured it all out.”
